Want to work for some of Melbourne’s best brands? You’ve probably heard ‘competition is fierce these days’, you need to know someone who works there’ and ‘you need to dress for success’ – among other things.

There’s no denying it – competition is fierce but here’s some winning tips to help you land that dream job.

#1- Write your CV for scanners. It takes less than 15 seconds for a reader to decide whether or not your CV is worth reading. Have you heard of the inverted pyramid? Put your most newsworthy information at the beginning of your CV and the general background info at the end.

#2 – Maintain a positive attitude. Start your day strong with a positive morning ritual. Whether it’s listening to your favourite song or going for run – kicking off your day the right way will help set your mindset for the job hunt or an interview. #3 – Dress for a positive impact. The way you dress says a lot about who you are. In an interview, you want the interviewer to focus on you, not your stripped shirt. When planning your outfit try to go for more solid colours that aren’t too distracting. Think about investing in a tailored suit and pay attention to the little details like ensuring your shirt is ironed, your nails are tidy and you don’t have dog hair on your jacket.

# 4 – Go the extra mile at interview time. Dig deep into the organisation in preparation for your interview. Read about the company’s values on their website and who their top clients are. Follow their social media accounts and look at their most recent posts – you might find some great conversation starters. Finally, it’s critical to listen attentively during the interview, don’t be half thinking about something else. How well you listen and respond can have a major impact on the quality of your interview.
